One of my favorite parts of the holidays is getting to see my daughters in Houston. It’s unfortunate that I don’t get to see them on a daily basis, but the time I do get to spend with them is precious. I’m very fortunate that their mother is a superstar and can manage twins and a career at the same time (and I believe 3 dogs). This year however, I get four straight days with them, and will close the year and start the new year with them. I can’t be more excited!
Part of the fun of going to see my girls is that I get to jump right back on a plane. Toward the end of 2017, I was traveling a lot. In fact, one might argue that I was traveling far to much, and I can tell you that it was taking a toll on me both physically and mentally. I really felt like I was becoming a one man band and for the most part I was. My body was constantly trying to catch up with whatever timezone I was in, and my eating habits were out of control. This time I plan to squarely keep them in check and avoid any unnecessary weight gain. At least that’s the plan.
With this trip, I will also make another jump in my status with American Airlines. So far, I’ve already been upgraded to first class on two of my flights, which isn’t such a bad way to travel. The automatic upgrades are a very nice feature of the loyalty program, and so is the Admirals Club. I tend to utilize both of them on almost every trip.
This year (2018) I hope to do a little more travel for fun instead of all business. Last year I traveled to Nashville, which was 3 more days than I needed, so I hope to pick some places that I haven’t been and have plenty to do. Also, I’m going to need a companion whom wants to do things besides sit in a bar and drink. It’s time to explore the world, and I’ve got the points to do it!
