A Full Day of Moving

My move is “almost” complete. I have over a month to get out of my current residence, but our new home is waiting to be lived in. Yesterday, with the help of family and friends, we nearly completed the moving process. And just like every other move, I realized how much crap I really have. My garage is full of plastic boxes that either house child memories, or T-Shirts that never got printed on.I also picked the one weekend that the kids have events everyday. Basketball in the middle of the day on Saturday and Softball tryouts on Sunday. It never fails that softball falls on a moving day, it’s happened each time we’ve moved. It could be worse though, we could be out on the streets and not have any of the things we have, so I’ll take whatever comes our way.

This also marks the first time we’ve really had a fresh start. Our last move was mostly dictated by someone whom was in my life at the time, and whom I had very little control in decision making. This time, the decision was all mine and I think I made a good one. Our home is beautiful, and one story, which means no more stairs to climb. I’m not sure if I’m starting to get really old, or if I’m just lazy, but I enjoy everything being on the same level.

I am also enjoying the purging process. If it doesn’t look good, or if it hasn’t been used in years, it’s going. We simply have a lot of junk that we don’t need. My Goodwill pile has been growing with each box that we open. Some of this stuff I can’t believe we even packed and moved. As we go through life, we start to accumulate “things”. I know for me it’s small electronics that I mess around with for a while, and then move on to the next thing. My obsession of the Raspberry Pi was a great example of this. Although I still use some of them for internal design and server testing, I don’t have the obsession I use to have in regards to doing new things with them. Now they mostly sit in a box doing nothing.

I’m looking forward to a “clutter free” life, one that I hope I can maintain. It sure is a mental lift when you walk through the door and you don’t see a bunch of crap sitting around. Clean and orderly sure is a stress free way to live. I wish I would have lived like this years ago.
