2017 is now behind us, and 2018 is bound to be the best year yet. I can’t really complain about last year, as it really wasn’t that bad for me. It ended a little rough, but as I start the new year I now realize the ending was a blessing in disguise. I ended the year and started the new one, spending time with my little cuties in Houston. They say what you do on the first day of the new year will be what you do all year. I’m hoping that only part of that is true. I like seeing my twins, and traveling in first class, but I’m not terribly excited about having cancelled flights and sitting in the Admirals Club for 4 plus hours (first world problems I know).
Traveling for me lately has gotten to be a chore. I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m getting old, or perhaps I’m used to traveling with status, but the number of people that try to pretend they haven’t traveled ever in their life, really gets on my nerves. I’m particularly fond of the person that gets on with three bags and expect everyone else to rearrange their bags, while the flight attendant has already told you that all the overhead space is full. Go ahead and just check your bag please. If you are one of the last people getting on the plane, chances are there won’t be a spot for you.
My goal for 2018 is to take full advantage of all the frequent flyer miles and hotel points I have. Right now I have enough for two first class tickets to someplace pretty exotic, and if there is a Marriott there, I’m also staying for free. With the additional travel points I have with my credit cards, I should be in a great position to have one hell of a vacation. I’m already going to Italy in March, so that won’t be a real vacation, so I’ve got to think of someplace else I’d really like to go. There are several places I’ve already been, so I’m taking them off the list, but one place I’ve always wanted to go is Nicaragua. I’ve stopped there on my way to Costa Rica, but never spent that many days there. I know the surf is awesome, and since I’m starting to enjoy surfing again, why not head that way.
All I know is that 2018 is turning over a new leaf. Finding a travel companion whom actually likes to get out and see things, and not just find restaurants and watering holes. I want there to be an adventure in store for me, and something really nice to look forward to.
If you have any ideas of where I should go, please don’t hesitate to tell me.
